miss misunderstood

i always knew

from the beginning

that the words

and the picture

they painted

of your image

had leaks

and holes.

subtle grammatical errors.

i refused to believe

what they told me

when you first

caught my attention.

never judge a book

by its cover

is something

i understood.

cuz i know all about

being misunderstood.

see,

i could never believe

the stories they tell.

there’s too much beauty

when darkness

overshadows

what really is.

and maybe

parts of the story

are true.

maybe

many things

can exist at once.

but ordinary tales

get confused

by the discrepancies.

the little moments

where truth

reveals itself

through action.

because actions

tell stories.

words

really mean little.

until you realize

they never saw you.

only a projection

of what they thought

you were.

no emotional intelligence.

no ability

to perceive.

then i looked closer.

and i started

to understand.

the questions.

the details.

the attention.

the things

most people miss.

and maybe

that’s the strangest part.

i thought

understanding you

would make the feeling

smaller.

instead,

it made it real.

i don’t miss

what i imagined.

i like

what i understand.

your presence.

your curiosity.

the person

behind the misunderstanding.

miss misunderstood.

i finally understand.

and now i know

why i keep thinking

about you.
