miss misunderstood
i always knew
from the beginning
that the words
and the picture
they painted
of your image
had leaks
and holes.
subtle grammatical errors.
—
i refused to believe
what they told me
when you first
caught my attention.
—
never judge a book
by its cover
is something
i understood.
cuz i know all about
being misunderstood.
—
see,
i could never believe
the stories they tell.
there’s too much beauty
when darkness
overshadows
what really is.
—
and maybe
parts of the story
are true.
maybe
many things
can exist at once.
—
but ordinary tales
get confused
by the discrepancies.
the little moments
where truth
reveals itself
through action.
—
because actions
tell stories.
words
really mean little.
—
until you realize
they never saw you.
only a projection
of what they thought
you were.
—
no emotional intelligence.
no ability
to perceive.
—
then i looked closer.
—
and i started
to understand.
—
the questions.
the details.
the attention.
the things
most people miss.
—
and maybe
that’s the strangest part.
—
i thought
understanding you
would make the feeling
smaller.
—
instead,
it made it real.
—
i don’t miss
what i imagined.
—
i like
what i understand.
—
your presence.
your curiosity.
the person
behind the misunderstanding.
—
miss misunderstood.
—
i finally understand.
and now i know
why i keep thinking
about you.
