hanging onto hope

everybody saying hope

while we’re hanging on a rope.

so close,

yet so far away.

it’s like—

i don’t really know.

i don’t really know.

i’m tryna stay afloat,

but i drown in these emotions.

please,

when you see me,

wish me hope.

wish that i’m far away

from anyone

who could mistake me

for a joke.

i’m not really one

to provoke,

but i’ve cut brothers

when i detected smoke.

so sound the alarm

and set me free

while i’m sitting

on some hope.

really,

i’m tryna stay afloat.

which way

am i headed now?

memories got me

in a choke,

but then again—

i don’t need no heimlich,

cuz i don’t really choke.

memories pass me by.

i’m sitting high up

in the sky.

every day

is getting closer,

just pushing the past

a little further.

i’m thinking

of all the times

that were good,

and all the memories

that we made.

but as time passes by,

the further

and further

they go.

so am i a bad person

if i forget?

or has something

not happened yet

that’ll make them matter

forever?

i don’t really know.

so i’m hanging

by some hope.
